Morocco international Abde Ezzalzouli has been nominated for La Liga’s Player of the Month award for February, following influential performances for Real Betis that included a goal against Real Mallorca and an assist in victory over Atletico Madrid.

The 23-year-old winger faces competition from Real Madrid midfielder Fede Valverde, Girona’s Thomas Lemar, Getafe forward Les Milla, and Villarreal striker Georges Mikautadze for the monthly honour, La Liga announced on Wednesday.

Ezzalzouli’s nomination recognises his decisive contributions during February, scoring in Betis’s 2-1 victory over Real Mallorca and creating the winning goal in their 1-0 triumph against Atletico Madrid, demonstrating his growing influence in Spanish football’s top division.

Strong competition for monthly award

Real Madrid’s Valverde represents formidable opposition for the award, having delivered consistently strong performances for the league leaders throughout February.

The Uruguayan midfielder has been instrumental in Madrid’s return to the summit of La Liga standings.

Lemar earned his nomination following a standout performance in Girona’s surprise 2-1 victory over Barcelona in the Catalan derby during matchday 24.

The French midfielder scored Girona’s opening goal in the upset victory, which significantly impacted the title race.

That defeat left Barcelona in second place with 58 points, whilst Real Madrid capitalised by returning to the top of the table with 60 points, establishing a two-point advantage with the season entering its crucial final stages.

Ezzalzouli’s season progression

The Moroccan winger’s nomination represents recognition of his development at Real Betis, where he has established himself as a key attacking threat.

His combination of pace, technical ability, and increasing end product has made him one of the more effective wide players in La Liga this season.

Ezzalzouli previously played for Barcelona’s youth system before joining Betis, giving added significance to his strong performances in Spain’s top flight.

His nomination alongside established stars like Valverde demonstrates his rising profile in European football.

The forward’s contributions have been particularly valuable for Betis as they pursue European qualification places, with his ability to create and score goals proving crucial in tight matches against quality opposition including Atletico Madrid.

Other nominees’ achievements

Getafe’s Les Milla earned his nomination through consistent performances for a side competing in the lower reaches of the table, whilst Villarreal’s Mikautadze has impressed with his goalscoring contributions for the Yellow Submarine during February.

The award recognises the standout individual performances across La Liga during February, with the five nominees representing various clubs across different positions, highlighting the competitive nature of Spain’s top division throughout the month.

The winner of February’s Player of the Month award will be announced in the coming days, with Ezzalzouli’s nomination representing significant recognition for both his individual performances and Real Betis’s strong form during the period.
