Ahmed Shobier, the former Egypt national team goalkeeper and prominent TV and radio host, has lavished praise on Ceramica Cleopatra after their impressive run in domestic competitions.
His comments came in the wake of the team’s 2-1 victory over defending champions Zamalek in the Egypt Cup round of 16 at the Suez Canal Authority Stadium.
Ceramica took an early lead when Zamalek defender Hossam Abdelmaguid accidentally turned the ball into his own net, before Mohamed Ismail struck late in the first half to level the score for the White Knights.
In the second half, Ahmed Belhaj settled the contest with a powerful strike in the 70th minute, despite teammate Sodiq Igoula missing a penalty ten minutes earlier. The win set up a quarterfinal clash for Ceramica Cleopatra against Tala’ea El Gaish, with the winner to face Zed in the semifinals.
On his radio show “Ma’ Shobier” on ON Sport FM, Shobier dedicated a large segment to praising head coach Ali Maher, describing him as “the best coach in the Egyptian Premier League.”
He stressed that Maher is “by far” ahead of his colleagues, noting that among the 21 coaches in the competition, none can match his impact. Shobier also warned rival clubs not to underestimate Ceramica Cleopatra’s ambitions, insisting they should be taken seriously in the race for the league title.
