A source close to Al-Ahly has dismissed recent speculation about the possible departure of Danish coach Jess Thorup, affirming that the club has no plans to relieve him of his duties this season.
According to the insider, talk of Thorup leaving is “unexpected,” particularly given that he assumed control during a challenging period for the team. The source clarified that
Thorup’s contract contains a mutual penalty clause: if the club terminates the deal within the first or second year, the coach is entitled to three months’ salary; if he chooses to resign, he must pay the club the same amount. Thorup earns $220,000 per month.
Since taking the helm early this season, Thorup has guided Al-Ahly to 11 wins, 7 draws, and 5 losses across all competitions.
The club sits fourth in the Egyptian Premier League with 30 points from 15 matches, trailing leaders Ceramica Cleopatra, second-placed Zamalek, and third-placed Pyramids.
