Kaba Diawara, the coach of the Guinean national football team, has affirmed that they have learned from the lessons of the past, emphasizing caution as they approach the crucial encounter with Equatorial Guinea on Sunday in the Round of 16 at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire.
During a press conference held on Saturday, Kaba Diawara stated, “Two years ago, we fell into the trap of believing we were the best before facing Gambia in the Round of 16 at the Africa Cup of Nations, and we were eliminated.
Now they say the same thing, but we will not make the same mistake.”
He explained, “We will not repeat the mistake. Knockout stages bring surprises, and we aim not to repeat the error of the last tournament.
Everyone who has reached the Round of 16 has the same ambition.”
Diawara continued, “Our ambition is to reach the furthest point in the tournament, despite the absences of Abdullah Touré and Ilyas Moriba.”
As Guinea prepares for the challenging match against Equatorial Guinea, Diawara’s words reflect a determination to avoid complacency and draw on the experiences of the past to secure success in the ongoing tournament.
