Mohamed Amoura continues to make headlines in Germany as a key yet divisive figure at VfL Wolfsburg.
The Algerian attacker, who was briefly suspended from the squad for a trip to Cologne, has returned strongly, underlining his importance to the team despite internal criticisms of his individualistic playing style.
According to the German newspaper Bild, several Wolfsburg teammates have expressed frustration over Amoura’s behaviour on the pitch, describing it as occasionally overly self-focused.
Yet, these complaints sit alongside an undeniable sporting reality: Amoura remains Wolfsburg’s most potent attacking weapon and a player the team relies on to maintain its Bundesliga standing.
Coach Daniel Bauer has addressed the balance between discipline and utilising Amoura’s talents.
Speaking after the striker scored a decisive goal against Leipzig, Bauer said: “You have to have a very healthy balance.
There are rules within a team that apply to all players. Mo learned that the hard way before the match against Cologne.”
Bauer also highlighted Amoura’s strengths, describing him as “a brilliant individualist” and explaining his role in integrating the player without disrupting the collective: “Mo is an important factor for us.
He is fully recognized within the team. He’s a special player, but he’s not a confrontational character. He’s a good lad and I have a good relationship with him.”
Amoura’s performance this season has reinforced his value. Wolfsburg’s top scorer with eight goals and two assists, he has also impressed with his work rate, pressing ability, and knack for turning difficult clearances into attacking opportunities.
Despite interest from other clubs last summer, the former ES Sétif player chose to remain with Wolfsburg, continuing to deliver consistently in a side that has struggled for consistency compared with the previous season.
While some of his individualism sparks debate, Amoura’s influence on the pitch is undeniable, and both his contributions and character make him a central figure in Wolfsburg’s pursuit of Bundesliga success.
