Guinea will play its two friendly matches during the international break in March in Morocco against Benin and Togo.

This is due to the lack of stadiums that meet the standards set by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and FIFA.

This decision, imposed by infrastructure constraints, was announced by the president of the Guinean Football Federation, Sory Doumbouya, who used the occasion to deliver a strong message about the state of African football and its need for profound reforms.

explained that his country currently lacks facilities that meet FIFA standards, forcing the Guinean national team to play its matches away from home. He acknowledged that this situation reflects structural challenges faced by several African countries, calling for a comprehensive approach to address the continent’s infrastructure crisis.

In his remarks, the Guinean official broadened the discussion to include the performance of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), arguing that the current situation necessitates a review of management and governance methods within the continental body. He emphasised that implementing structural reforms has become an urgent necessity to ensure the sustainable development of African football and enhance its international credibility.

When discussing the recent Africa Cup of Nations finals hosted by Morocco, Doumbouya expressed great praise for the organisational level, describing the Moroccan experience as a model to be emulated in terms of readiness, infrastructure and services, and stressing that it raised expectations to unprecedented levels.

However, this organizational excellence, according to him, does not obscure the problems related to the management of some files within the continental body, especially what was raised about refereeing decisions and controversial penalties during the 2025 final, considering that such practices affect the image of African football, calling for a review of decision-making mechanisms in a way that enhances transparency and enshrines justice.

The president of the Guinean federation concluded by praising what he described as Moroccan sports diplomacy, considering that the Kingdom plays a pivotal role in ensuring the continuity of continental competitions when other countries refrain from bidding to host.

He stressed that directing unjustified accusations at Morocco ignores its actual contribution to supporting African football, emphasising that the expected reforms must put an end to these discrepancies and establish a more balanced and equitable phase within the continental system
