Moroccan midfielder Mehdi Carcela has decided to leave Anzhi Makhachkala, following in the footsteps of his compatriot Mbark Boussoufa. Standard de Liège announced on Sunday that they have secured the services of Carcela on a 3-year contract.
The official Standard website stated, “Standard de Liège, the Russian club Anzhi Makhatchkala, and Mehdi have reached an agreement. The player has just signed a 3-season contract with Rouches!”
This move marks a return to his roots for Carcela, who was trained at Standard and previously played for the club from 1995 to 2008. During that period, he participated in 103 official matches, winning the Belgian championship in 2009 and finishing as vice-champion of Belgium in 2011.
The acquisition of Mehdi Carcela is a significant addition for Standard de Liège, and fans will be eager to see him contribute to the team’s success in the upcoming seasons.
