The staff of the Super Eagles of Nigeria has announced the withdrawal of midfielder Gabriel Reuben from the upcoming confrontation against Liberia this Saturday. The player from Kano Pillars sustained an injury during the Federation Cup final, which worsened during the Super Eagles’ preparation in Abuja. A team official has confirmed Reuben’s withdrawal, stating, “Reuben was not well and was left in Abuja.” Alongside Reuben, his Pillars teammate Umar Zongo and Gombe United striker Samusi Sani have also been omitted from Stephen Keshi’s final squad.
However, there is no doubt surrounding Ikechukwu Uche’s participation in the match against Liberia. Coach Stephen Keshi affirmed, “IK is doing well. As we can see, he trained normally. He just needed some rest, and he is now fit. Only Reuben is out due to injury.”
In the absence of Reuben, Efe Ambrose, the defensive midfielder from Celtics, could be elevated to a starting role in the Eagles’ midfield. Keshi is prepared to entrust him with this responsibility based on his recent performances with the Olympic team.
