Al Ahly goalkeeper Mostafa Shobeir has attributed his outfit pulsating goalless draw against FAR Rabat in the final CAF Champions League group stage clash to luck.
The highly-competitive clash, held at the Cairo International Stadium ended 0-0, as both teams struggled to find the back of the net.
The match was a tightly contested affair, with both teams creating scoring opportunities but failing to find the back of the net in a match that showcased solid defending and cautious attacking.
With this draw, both teams have qualified to the quarterfinal of the CAF’s elite club competition.
“The most important thing is to achieve the desired goal, which is topping the group. We played a great match, but we lacked luck in scoring goals” he told ON Sport.
“We had several dangerous opportunities, unlike the JS Kabylie match where we didn’t create many chances and also ended in a goalless draw.”
“I thank Thorup for his confidence in me and I hope the future will be better. We have important matches ahead in the league and we want to improve our position in the tournament by winning the upcoming matches.”
“We are waiting for the quarter-final draw to find out our next opponent in the African Champions League.”
Al Ahly secured top spot in Group B, accumulating 10 points, followed by FAR Rabat (9 points), with Young Africans and JS Kabylie finishing third and fourth respectively.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has set February 17, 2026 for the Champions League quarterfinal draw.
