Rachid Benmahmoud, part of the coaching staff under head coach Walid Regragui of the Moroccan national team, emphasized his team’s readiness to face any opponent in the Africa Cup of Nations.
Having topped Group Six with 7 points, Morocco is set to face South Africa in the Round of 16.
Speaking in a press conference after defeating Zambia 1-0 in the group stage, Benmahmoud stated, “Avoiding the Egyptian national team? To be a champion, you shouldn’t think that way; instead, you should compete with all teams.
We have come with a mindset capable of contending for the title.”
Regarding the upcoming match against South Africa in the Round of 16, he added, “South Africa defeated us in our last encounter, and we were not at our best then.
Currently, we have ready players, and many names were absent in that match. We will prepare for the game, and we have no excuses.”
Benmahmoud took charge of the Moroccan team in the match against Zambia after head coach Walid Regragui received a four-match suspension.
Morocco’s victory secured their position at the top of Group Six, eliminating the possibility of facing Egypt in the Round of 16.
Meanwhile, Congo, the group’s runner-up, will face Egypt next Sunday.
