The 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) commenced in Côte d’Ivoire two weeks ago, standing out as one of the most significant football events on the continent in the 21st century. While Ivory Coast’s hosting was largely flawless, a few challenges unfolded, revealing a competition that, despite its resounding success, encountered some setbacks.
From the outset on January 13, expectations were high for this highly anticipated continental competition, especially following the controversies surrounding the previous edition in Cameroon, primarily related to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
