Benin’s football federation, FBF, is experiencing an electoral crisis despite the withdrawal of its controversial president, Anjorin Moucharafou. The recent election of Augustin Ahouenvoebla as the new FBF president is contested, and FIFA is involved in the matter. Ahouenvoebla, elected by the congress with 24 votes against 23 for his challenger Bruno Didavi, faces opposition claiming that the majority was not reached during the vote. FIFA’s secretary general, Jérôme Valcke, has questioned the validity of the vote, emphasizing that 50% + 1 equals 25 delegates, and after the verification of mandates and quorum, only 47 delegates responded instead of 48. Meanwhile, Ahouenvoebla has contested a new vote, arguing that the FBF electoral code in force illustrates that 50% + 1 of the 47 votes cast is 24, not 25. Despite the appeal, the Appeals Commission canceled the election results, and a final decision is pending.
