German tactician Ernst Middendorp has downplayed reports linking him to Durban City coaching job following the departure of Sinethemba Badela.
The South African outfit mutually parted ways with Sinethemba Badela amid the club’s inconsistent performance in the ongoing campaign.
Badela joined Durban City at the start of the year after departing fellow South African outfit, Chippa United three games into the current season.
Having linked with a move to Durban City, the former Kaizer Chiefs, Moroka Swallows and Cape Town Spurs trainer has moved to shoot down speculation.
“I was not connected to Durban City FC at the time the club released Gavin Hunt at the end of November 2025; I left the club at the end of September 2025. Officially, I joined Durban City FC on 15 December 2025 in the role of technical director again. I have no interest in, nor have I pursued, the position of Head Coach at Durban City FC,” Middendorp said on LinkedIn.
“There has never been any intention or scenario in which I would follow Themba Badela in the Head Coach role. Throughout my tenure, I have fully supported the head coach, both professionally and structurally, in line with my mandate as technical director and in the best interests of the club.
Durban City are expected to storm the market in search of a new head coach for the remainder of the campaign.
In the South African Premier League, Durban City are currently sixth on the South Africa Premier League standings, accumulating 25 points after 17 matches.
