Former Egypt international Ayman Younes believes Zamalek’s greatest strength throughout its history has been its youth academy, insisting it stands head and shoulders above those of rivals Al Ahly and Ismaily.
Speaking during a radio interview, Younes said Al Ahly cannot depend on homegrown players in the same way Zamalek traditionally does.
“Zamalek is defined by the quality and credibility of its youth sector,” he explained. “The club has always produced players capable of carrying the team.”
Younes also praised head coach Moataz Gamal, describing him as bold and forward-thinking in his approach to squad management.
“Gamal is an adventurous coach. His use of players is visionary and based on calculated risk, similar to the philosophy Carlos Queiroz adopted,” he said.
Turning to the supporters, Younes paid glowing tribute to the Zamalek faithful, describing them as the club’s lifeblood.
“The Zamalek fans are the crown, the fuel, and the protector of Zamalek Club, and the Zamalek fans are great because of what they have seen throughout the past years.”
Younes concluded by calling on the club’s board to take decisive action to steady the ship.
“I urge the Zamalek board to reassure the fans and set a roadmap for the team,” he added.
