Werder Bremen reportedly rejected two last-minute transfer offers for teenage defensive sensation Karim Coulibaly, opting to retain the highly rated German-Senegalese centre-back despite growing interest from abroad.
The 18-year-old was handed an unexpected opportunity at the beginning of the campaign following injury setbacks within Bremen’s defence. Rather than being overwhelmed, Coulibaly seized the moment and quickly made himself indispensable.
He has featured in 19 Bundesliga matches so far this season, starting 18 of them, and has emerged as a key figure at the heart of Werder’s back line.
His rapid rise has not gone unnoticed. Strong performances throughout the 2025/26 season have drawn attention from several clubs, prompting late approaches during the winter transfer window.
However, Werder Bremen were unwilling to entertain the idea of parting ways with the youngster at such a crucial stage of the campaign.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano revealed that the Bundesliga side turned down two concrete offers for Coulibaly, with one proposal coming from England and another from Italy. Despite the financial appeal, Werder’s hierarchy chose continuity over cash.
The club’s stance is rooted in both sporting and strategic considerations. Coulibaly has become a regular starter and a pillar in defence, while Bremen also believe his market value could rise further during the second half of the season if his development continues on its current trajectory.
