Chelsea have sent Ivory Coast striker David Datro Fofana on loan to French Ligue 1 side Strasbourg, as the Premier League club continues to seek regular playing time for the 22-year-old forward.
The move, confirmed by Chelsea, will see Fofana spend the remainder of the season in France, where he is expected to reinforce Strasbourg’s attacking options following an injury to their leading striker, Emmanuel Emegha.
The loan runs until June 2026.
For Fofana, the switch marks his third temporary move since joining Chelsea from Norwegian side Molde in 2023.
Despite arriving in London with high expectations, the striker has found first-team opportunities limited at Stamford Bridge, making just four appearances for the club across all competitions.
Chelsea’s decision reflects a continued strategy of loaning the player out to gain experience across different leagues.
Fofana has already featured in Germany, England and Turkey, with mixed but encouraging returns that have underlined his potential at senior level.
The Ivorian enjoyed a productive spell in the Premier League with Burnley in 2024, scoring four goals in 15 matches during a period when the club was battling for form.
While his time there was short, it provided him with valuable exposure to English top-flight football and physical demands at the highest level.
More recently, Fofana impressed in Turkey with Karagümrük, where he found the net six times in 13 appearances in the Süper Lig.
That run of form helped restore confidence in his finishing ability and movement, qualities Strasbourg will be hoping to tap into as they navigate a demanding Ligue 1 campaign.
Strasbourg’s interest was driven by necessity as well as opportunity.
The injury to Emmanuel Emegha has left the club short of attacking depth, and Fofana’s arrival offers a direct replacement with experience across multiple European leagues despite his young age.
For Chelsea, the loan provides a chance to further assess Fofana’s development in a competitive environment closely linked to the club’s wider recruitment network.
