Manchester City’s title ambitions remain very much alive despite a frustrating 2-2 draw at Tottenham on Sunday, with Ghanaian forward Antoine Semenyo calling for focus and resilience as the season enters its final stretch.
City led 2-0 at halftime thanks to goals from Rayan Cherki and Semenyo himself, but Dominic Solanke’s second-half brace for Spurs denied them all three points and left the visitors six points adrift of leaders Arsenal.
Speaking after the match, Semenyo acknowledged the disappointment of surrendering a strong first-half lead but stressed the season is far from over.
“We’ve got more games, there are 14 games to go. We are six points behind, it’s not the end,” he said. “Anything can happen. 14 games to go, they might lose a couple of games and we might win. The dynamic changes and we have to see what happens.”
Semenyo admitted City struggled to maintain the control they showed in the opening 45 minutes.
“First-half we played really well. It was just keeping the ball and doing what we needed to do,” he said.
“The mentality was to do the same things again. Second-half that didn’t happen and they dominated. Couldn’t tell you why if I’m honest. They started picking up momentum and had a couple of chances.”
He also highlighted the role of the home crowd in swinging the game in Tottenham’s favor.
“Getting the crowd into it helped. The crowd were behind them and it definitely helps,” Semenyo added.
Despite the setback, City’s attacker urged both teammates and fans to remain confident and focused as the campaign reaches its decisive stages.
