Al-Ahly Club’s football director, Walid Salah El-Din, has affirmed that the disciplinary action against Emam Ashour will remain in place, describing the player’s conduct as “a very serious mistake” that cannot be overlooked under any circumstances.
Salah El-Din acknowledged the team is navigating a period of heavy fixtures and fatigue, but emphasised that discipline is non-negotiable.
“Any player who errs will face consequences, regardless of the importance of matches or titles,” he said, highlighting that Al-Ahly’s legacy and achievements outweigh those of any individual.
He also criticised certain media programs for what he called inappropriate conduct, pointing out that it was “shameful” for commentators to appear on major channels dancing on air while calling for accountability from the club’s doctor and football manager.
Salah El-Din described such behaviour as “an unacceptable display of weakness.”
Concluding his remarks, the football director thanked Al-Ahly supporters for backing the club’s decision, noting that their support strengthens the club’s commitment to its principles and upholding discipline.
The club had earlier fined Ashour 1.5 million Egyptian pounds after he turned off his phone and failed to travel with the team to Tanzania.
