FC Porto are closing in on the signing of Nigerian striker Terem Moffi from OGC Nice, ending a turbulent period for the 26-year-old on the French Riviera.
Moffi’s time at Nice has been marked by significant challenges. Following the defeat to Lorient on 30 November, the Super Eagles international was reportedly physically assaulted by supporters, bringing his relationship with the club to a breaking point.
Tensions had escalated to the point where a legal dispute before the French labor court appeared likely, but both parties have opted for a transfer solution instead.
According to French sports daily L’Équipe, Moffi will travel to Portugal on Thursday to finalise terms with the Primeira Liga club. The deal is reportedly structured as a loan with a non-mandatory purchase option set at €8 million.
The striker’s contract with Nice was due to expire next summer, which has facilitated the negotiations.
Moffi, who has made 10 appearances for Nice this season, scored two goals before the breakdown in relations with the club. Valued at €10 million, he earns an annual salary of €900,000.
The transfer to Porto offers the Nigerian international a fresh start and an opportunity to revive his career following a difficult few months in Ligue 1.
The move also reflects Porto’s continued strategy of recruiting young talent with proven potential across Europe and providing a platform for career resurgence.
Moffi, who has been capped by Nigeria at senior level, is expected to bolster Porto’s attacking options as they look to compete domestically and in European competitions.
While the transfer is yet to be formally announced, sources suggest that all major details have been agreed, and medicals are expected to follow before the official confirmation.
For Moffi, the move to Portugal represents a chance to rebuild confidence and regain form in a new environment.
