Fenerbahçe are increasingly confident of completing a deal for Al-Ittihad midfielder N’Golo Kanté as negotiations move toward a decisive phase ahead of the winter transfer deadline.
The Turkish giants believe the framework is now in place to bring the former Chelsea star back to European football.
Kanté, whose contract with Al-Ittihad is entering its final six months, is understood to be keen on the move and has played a key role in facilitating discussions.
Reports indicate the French international of Malian descent has already convinced the Saudi club to allow him to depart before the January window closes, opening the door for Fenerbahçe to push ahead.
Agreement with player already in place
Fenerbahçe’s confidence is further boosted by the fact that personal terms with Kanté were settled well before Christmas. The veteran midfielder has agreed on a contract in principle, leaving the clubs to iron out the final details of a transfer fee.
Talks are now focused on reaching a compromise with Al-Ittihad, who are weighing up their options as time runs down. While Kanté’s contract situation gives Fenerbahçe leverage, the Saudi side are keen to secure value before sanctioning his exit.
Al-Ittihad plan for life after Kanté
With Kanté edging closer to the exit, Al-Ittihad have already begun identifying potential replacements.
Head coach Domenico Tedesco is eager to avoid being left short in midfield so late in the window and has urged the club to act swiftly should the Frenchman’s departure be confirmed.
