Deportivo Alavés have agreed to loan Mali international Moussa Diarra to Belgian side Anderlecht for the remainder of the season.
The Spanish club confirmed that the 25-year-old defender will spend the next six months in the Jupiler Pro League, bringing to an end speculation linking him with a possible return to France.
Despite reported interest from Ligue 1 strugglers Nantes, Diarra will continue his career outside France after the two clubs finalised the temporary transfer.
Diarra, who joined Alavés in 2024, has found opportunities limited in La Liga following an encouraging start to his spell in Spain.
The move to Anderlecht offers him the chance to regain regular playing time and re-establish himself at club level during the second half of the 2025–26 campaign.
The defender began his European career in France after signing for Toulouse in 2019, where he developed into a reliable option before earning a move abroad.
His versatility has been a key feature of his profile, with the Malian capable of operating both as a left-sided central defender and at left-back.
Anderlecht’s sporting director Olivier Renard expressed clear satisfaction at completing the deal, highlighting the qualities the club believes Diarra will bring to the squad.
“Moussa Diarra is a left-footed central defender who can also play at left-back. With his strong personality and experience in Ligue 1 and La Liga, Moussa fit the profile we wanted to add to our squad for the end of the season,” he stated.
The Belgian club have secured the defender on loan until the end of the campaign, with the agreement also including an option to buy.
Anderlecht see Diarra as an immediate defensive reinforcement as they look to strengthen their squad during a crucial phase of the season.
For Diarra, the move represents an opportunity to relaunch his career after a difficult period in Spain.
Although he featured early in his Alavés tenure, he struggled to maintain a regular place in the starting line-up, prompting the club to seek a solution that would benefit both parties.
By joining Anderlecht, Diarra will aim to make a swift impact and demonstrate the qualities that once made him a consistent presence in Ligue 1.
His performances over the coming months are likely to determine whether the Belgian side activate their option to make the transfer permanent.
