Ivorian striker Giovanni Sio is set to play in the Swiss championship this season after leaving the Bundesliga. Previously with VfL Wolfsburg, Sio has joined FC Basel.
Sio had been on loan to Sochaux in January and was expected to continue with them this summer after returning to Wolfsburg. However, he has now signed a four-year contract with FC Basel.
The 24-year-old Ivorian international was also a target for Saint-Etienne. Sio returns to the Swiss championship, having played for FC Sion from 2009 to January 2012. In the previous season in Ligue 1 with Sochaux, Sio scored four goals.
