Benjamin Graham, the Marketing Director for the Ghana Football Union, conveyed the collective dissatisfaction of the nation and the union itself regarding the performance and results of the national team in the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2023.
Graham emphasized that the performance of major teams, such as Cameroon, has been disappointing, despite the significant evolution of football, with smaller footballing nations surprising the traditionally strong and higher-ranked teams.
During an interview with Basant Akram, the host of the “AFCON 2023” program on Cairo News Channel, Graham commented, “The performance of major teams is extremely disheartening.
Despite the considerable advancements in football, smaller nations have managed to surprise the bigger and more advanced teams in the rankings.”
He continued, “The Ghanaian people, in general, are not pleased at all.
What transpired in the match against Mozambique the day before yesterday, concluding the group stage matches, was highly dramatic.
We showcased a splendid performance at the beginning of the game. However, Mozambique invested substantial effort to elevate their game.
Unfortunately, we dominated the match for 80 minutes, but they seized the initiative, and we were caught off guard by this deadly draw.”
The sentiments expressed by Graham reflect the prevailing frustration among Ghanaians and the football union, highlighting the need for introspection and improvement in the team’s performance as they progress in the tournament.
