Following Algeria’s disappointing exit in the first round of the 34th edition of the African Cup of Nations (AFCON 2023), Djamel Belmadi’s departure from the national team has been officially confirmed by the president of the Algerian Football Federation (FAF), Walid Sadi.
The announcement was made through a tweet on Sadi’s official Twitter account, where he disclosed that he had a meeting with Djamel Belmadi, resulting in a mutual agreement for an amicable separation.
Sadi expressed gratitude to Mr. Belmadi for his contributions to the national team and extended well wishes for his future endeavors.
“I met with Mr. Djamel Belmadi just after the elimination in the first round of AFCON 2023, and we reached an agreement for an amicable separation.
Now the contract will be terminated soon. I thank Mr. Belmadi for everything that has given to the national team, and we wish him good luck during his career,” stated Sadi on Twitter.
Acknowledging the disappointment faced by Algerian supporters due to the team’s early elimination, Sadi issued an apology to the nation and promised to instigate necessary changes within the team.
He pledged to create a conducive environment and address the shortcomings to ensure a stronger performance in the future.
“I ask forgiveness from our supporters and the Algerian people for this elimination.
We have invested colossal resources, but the results have not followed.
I promise to make the necessary changes within this team. We will try to ensure a good environment and try to work on this failure to bounce back in the future and return to success,” added Sadi.
Algeria finished fourth in Group D with only two points, trailing behind Angola, Burkina Faso, and Mauritania.
The departure of Djamel Belmadi marks a turning point for the national team as they strategize and regroup for future AFCON competitions.
