Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Ghazouani extended his heartfelt congratulations to the national team for their splendid triumph over Algeria, securing a place in the Round of 16 at the Africa Cup of Nations.
In a post on his official Facebook account, President Ghazouani stated, “Congratulations to our national team, ‘Al Murabitun,’ on this remarkable victory and their first-ever qualification to the Round of 16 in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.”
He added, “The victory was the result of outstanding performance, collective effort, and high national spirit.
Carry on, as the entire nation stands with you.”
The Mauritanian national team created a major upset on Tuesday by defeating Algeria and eliminating them from the Africa Cup of Nations during the final matchday of Group D in the initial stage.
“Al Murabitun” secured a 1-0 victory over Algeria at the Stade de la Paix in Bouaké, Ivory Coast, marking Mauritania’s first-ever win in their third appearance in the tournament.
