Gambia’s national team has officially announced the departure of their Belgian coach, Tom, following their exit from the Africa Cup of Nations group stage, culminating in the team finishing at the bottom of their group.
The Gambian squad missed the opportunity to advance to the Round of 16 in the dying moments of their match against Cameroon, losing 3-2.
Tom, who has been at the helm of Gambia for six years, guided them to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations twice.
Under his leadership, the team achieved a notable quarter-final berth in the 2021 African Cup of Nations.
The announcement of Tom’s departure comes as Gambia reflects on their performance in the current tournament, where they faced tough competition in Group 3, alongside Senegal, Cameroon, and Guinea.
