The Ghana Football Association has officially announced the dismissal of Black Stars coach Chris Hughton, following the team’s failure to secure a victory in any of the group stage matches at the Africa Cup of Nations, leading to an early exit from the tournament.
In an official statement, the Ghanaian Football Association declared, “The Ghana Football Association wishes to announce the termination of Chris Hughton’s duties as the coach of the national team, and the Executive Council has decided to dissolve the technical staff of the Black Stars.”
The statement continued, “In the coming days, the Ghanaian Football Association will present a roadmap outlining the future direction for the Black Stars.”
Ghana faced a disappointing start in the tournament, losing their opening match to Cape Verde 2-1, followed by draws against Egypt (2-2) and Mozambique (2-2) in the crucial group stage match.
This series of results resulted in Ghana’s official elimination from the tournament.
The Ghanaian supporters had high hopes for the coach and players to make a significant impact in the tournament. However, the Black Stars’ early departure led to Egypt securing a spot in the Round of 16 in their stead.
The Ghana Football Association now faces the task of charting a new course for the national team, aiming to regroup and strategize for future competitions.
