Guingamp’s leadership has expressed dissatisfaction with the trial performance of Opa Nguette, deciding not to enlist the 29-year-old winger, according to information from Télégramme. The former Senegalese international, who has been without a club since September, underwent trial sessions with Guingamp starting last Wednesday.
Opa Nguette’s arrival on Wednesday was met with anticipation, but the assessments over the subsequent days did not align with the club’s expectations.
The Senegalese player, who concluded his contract with FC Baniyas in the United Arab Emirates in the summer of 2023, engaged in training sessions with En Avant Guingamp from Wednesday to Sunday, as confirmed by Stéphane Dumont upon the player’s arrival.
However, the trial period for the former FC Metz player proved inconclusive.
With concerns over his pace, the 29-year-old winger failed to sway the opinions of Guingamp’s leadership.
The coach of EAG acknowledged the less-than-ideal outcome, stating, “There is a good chance that he will not join us.
The timings were not optimal.” Despite the setback, Opa Nguette, who rose to prominence during his tenure at FC Metz from 2016 to 2022, featuring in over 100 Ligue 1 matches and a season in Ligue 2 (2018-2019), remains hopeful of securing a new opportunity to revive his career.
