In a historic victory, the Equatorial Guinean national team achieved a resounding four-nil win against Ivory Coast, the tournament host, in the recently concluded match of the third round of the African Cup of Nations Group A.

With this triumph, Equatorial Guinea secures a spot in the Round of 16, leading Group A, while Ivory Coast awaits a miracle to claim a qualification spot as one of the best third-placed teams.

The Group A standings after the completion of the third round are as follows: Equatorial Guinea tops the group with 7 points, closely followed by Nigeria, also with 7 points.

Ivory Coast, the host nation, sits in third place with 3 points, while Guinea-Bissau lingers at the bottom of the group with zero points.

The group leaders from Group A will face the third-placed team from either Group C, Group D, or Group E, while the group runners-up will encounter the runners-up from Group C.

It’s also a possibility that the third-placed team from Group A may play against the group winners from either Group B or Group C.

The Round of 16 matches are scheduled to commence from Saturday, January 27, 2024, until Tuesday, January 30, 2024.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has designated 7:00 PM and 10:00 PM as the kickoff times for the matches in this round.

Equatorial Guinea’s remarkable performance in Group A has added an extra layer of excitement to the tournament, showcasing the unpredictable and thrilling nature of the African Cup of Nations.
