Former Super Eagles captain Sunday Oliseh has expressed serious concern about the state of Nigeria’s national football team following the conclusion of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Oliseh warned that if issues of discipline and overall management are not addressed, the future of the Super Eagles could be at risk. The ex-Juventus midfielder admitted that he has stayed silent for years while witnessing the gradual decline of football in Nigeria.
Speaking on his program, Sunday Oliseh’s Global Football Insights, he bemoaned what he termed the downfall of Nigerian football.
“My colleagues and I have stayed silent for years, but I won’t stay silent about the downfall of our football. We need to get back to being respected. I didn’t speak during the 2025 AFCON tournament because I didn’t want to be a distraction. I let the football do the talking, but now that the trophy has been decided, it is time for the truth. If we don’t fix the discipline and the administration, there won’t be a Super Eagles left to support,” Oliseh lamented.
Oliseh’s comments highlight growing concern among former players and analysts about governance, team culture, and the long-term sustainability of Nigeria’s national team.
