AFCON final: Krepin Diatta ruled out as Antoine Mendy steps in for Senegal

Senegal have been dealt a late setback ahead of their Africa Cup of Nations final against Morocco after Krepin Diatta was ruled out of the match through injury.

The winger’s withdrawal was confirmed just hours before kick-off, forcing a last-minute change to the Lions of Teranga’s starting line-up. Antoine Mendy has been drafted in to replace Diatta for the showpiece encounter.

Diatta had been expected to play a key role in the final, having featured prominently during Senegal’s run to the decisive match.

His absence represents a significant blow for the West African champions, given his pace, experience and influence on the flank.

Senegal’s coaching staff moved quickly to reshuffle their options, turning to Mendy, who now has the task of filling the void in one of the most demanding matches of his career.

The change comes as both teams finalise preparations for the climax of the tournament, staged in front of a packed crowd and a global television audience.

The final pits Senegal against hosts Morocco, with both sides seeking continental glory after strong campaigns.

While Senegal must now adjust without one of their regular starters, they will hope their squad depth and resilience can help them overcome the late disruption.
