Egypt forward Mahmoud Hassan Trezeguet has hailed his captain Mohammed Salah as the best player in the world as the Pharaohs gears up for the crucial semi-final game against Senegal at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Pharaohs defeated Ivory Coast 3-2 in the quarterfinals clash on Saturday at the Adrar Stadium in Agadir, setting up a tricky encounter against Senegal at the continental showpiece.
It promises to be a thrilling clash, as both teams will be yearning for victory to secure a place in the finals of the tournament, being held in Morocco.
At the pre-match conference, Trezeguet eulogized Salah as the side count on him ahead of the high-profile game against Senegal.
He stressed: “Mohamed Salah, for me, is the best player in the world, and we have all seen the roles he plays. He is the player who most often returns to defend and the player who most desires to win the title. All the players have felt the Egyptians’ desire and their anticipation to make them happy. Each one of us goes down to the field and forgets his name, and the striker is the first to return to defend.”
“We don’t pay attention to social media and focus only on achieving victory, and we hold motivational meetings continuously.”
The match between Egypt and Senegal is a repeat of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations final in Cameroon, where the Taranga Lions triumphed over the Pharaohs to clinch their first AFCON title.
Besides, the Taranga Lions prevented the North African country from securing a spot in the upcoming 2022 World Cup tournament in Qatar.
The winner of the match is scheduled to face the winner of the Morocco vs Nigeria match in the tournament.
