Senegal coach Pape Thiaw has voiced caution ahead of his team’s semifinal showdown with Egypt.
The Taranga Lions are set to take on the Pharaohs on Wednesday, January 14, at the Tangier Grand Stadium, with kick-off scheduled for 17:00 GMT.
“The Egyptian national team is very strong tactically, but we adhere to our philosophy of play,” Thiaw said.
“They are a competitor whose level is gradually improving, and they never stop doing exceptional things. They know very well how to defend, and they love to do that.”
Thiaw emphasized the need for focus at the back, adding, “We are prepared and focused on maintaining our balance. Their attack is sharp and decisive, so we must be careful to avoid conceding goals.”
When questioned about his future if Senegal were to lose, Thiaw was resolute: “My personal fate is not important. What matters is Senegal, and we will fight to win.”
The coach also highlighted the presence of four African coaches in the semifinals as a testament to the talent and experience of the continent’s managers.
“We are preparing for this match with great focus, and we must be extremely careful.
“We know that we have players who are at risk of suspension, but they will not think about that and will do their best to qualify regardless of anything else,” he added.
