The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has strongly condemned what it describes as “unacceptable behaviour” by some players, officials and media personnel during quarter-final matches at the ongoing TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025.
In a statement released on Monday, January 12, 2026, CAF confirmed it has opened formal investigations into incidents that occurred during the quarter-final encounters between Cameroon and hosts Morocco, as well as Algeria versus Nigeria.
According to CAF, recent match reports and video footage have revealed conduct that may be inconsistent with the organisation’s standards of professionalism and fair play.
“CAF has collected recent match reports and video evidence indicating potentially unacceptable behaviour from some players and officials and has opened an investigation into match incidents during the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 quarter-final fixtures,” the statement said.
The continental governing body disclosed that the cases have been referred to its Disciplinary Board, which will review the evidence and recommend sanctions should any individuals be found guilty.
“CAF has referred the matters to the Disciplinary Board for investigation and has called for appropriate action to be taken if the identified persons were to be found guilty of any wrongdoing,” CAF added.
Beyond on-field issues, CAF also confirmed it is reviewing footage involving alleged misconduct by members of the media in the mixed zone area.
“CAF is also reviewing footage of an incident involving members of the media who allegedly misbehaved in the mixed zone area,” the statement noted.
Reaffirming its zero-tolerance stance, CAF emphasized that behaviour targeting match officials or organisers will not be condoned.
“CAF strongly condemns any inappropriate behaviour which occurs during matches, especially those targeting the refereeing team or match organizers. Appropriate actions will be sought against anyone whose behaviour is not consistent with professional conduct at CAF events.”
CAF has assured stakeholders that further communication will follow once the disciplinary processes are concluded.
