Head coach of Ivory Coast Emerse Fae has admitted his outfit made a lot of mistakes in their quarterfinal game against Egypt, hindering their progress at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Ivory Coast, who are the defending champions succumbed to a 3-2 defeat to Egypt on Saturday, ending their journey at the continental showpiece in Morocco.
Egypt has now set up a tricky semifinals clash against Senegal, who defeated Mali to secure a place in the last 8 of the tournament.
Speaking after the match, Fae, who guided the Elephants AFCON triumph last term stressed his out made a lot of mistakes hindering their progress at the tournament.
“What’s frustrating for us is that we know this team very well, and we know that they defend a lot, have experience, and are good at wasting time.” He told beIN SPORTS:
“We knew that if we conceded the first goal, things would become complicated because they would waste time as they did in this match.”
“We made a lot of mistakes in the goals we conceded, which were unusual and put us in a difficult position and hindered our progress” he concluded.
Ivory Coast will now turn their attention to the upcoming 2026 World Cup tournament to be staged in the USA, Canada and Mexico.
