Former Al Ahly striker Gilberto da Silva has shared his thoughts on Angola’s goalless draw against Egypt in the Africa Cup of Nations, highlighting the performance of his compatriot Chico Banza, who plays for Zamalek.
Egypt secured a 0-0 draw with Angola, finishing Group B with seven points at the top.
Speaking on Al-Nahar TV, Gilberto praised the Egyptian squad’s depth.
“We saw 11 new players on the field after Egypt had already qualified, and Hossam Hassan decided to rest the main players. Even so, you wouldn’t have known these players hadn’t featured in the first two matches, which shows the quality present in the squad,” he said.
He described the game as challenging for both teams and acknowledged his respect for Egyptian football.
“The match against Egypt was tough, and I have a strong relationship with the Egyptian people and their national team. I know very well the level of the Egyptian players,” he added.
Gilberto also commented on Angola’s squad management. “It was natural for Hossam Hassan to rest players after securing the top spot. Great coaches aim to involve all players on the roster,” he noted.
On Chico Banza, he said: “He is a young player still learning. He is developing his skills at Zamalek, but he needs more time to find harmony both in Egypt and at the club. With the Angolan national team, he performed well because he understands his teammates better.”
