Head coach of South Africa, Hugo Broos, has hailed Tshepang Moremi’s impact following victory against Angola in their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations opening game.
The 25-year-old, who plies his trade for Orlando Pirates made substitute appearances as the Bafana Bafana triumphed over the Palancas Negras to cap off an impressive start to the continental showpiece, being held in Morocco.
Goals from Oswin Appollis and Lyle Foster were enough for the Bafana Bafana to snatch maximum points in the high-stake clash on Monday.
And according to Broos, the introduction of the midfielder made the difference as his outfit secured a 2-1 win over their opponent.
“Tshepang did wonderful coming in the team, suddenly there was speed in our team, we were dangerous we scored goal which was offside, I don’t know what happened there,” Broos said on SABC Sport after the game.
“But yes, he was a threat for our opponents and he did it very well in the 45 minutes he played.”
Broos said the win is good for them as they will now approach their next game against Egypt with ease. According to Broos not earning three points against Angola would have made them face The Pharaohs with less pressure.
“We tried to avoid that because if you’ve lost the game today then you have Egypt then you are in big trouble, but I wasn’t pleased with the game we played in the first half and just the moment we led 1-0 and then we fell asleep,” Broos said.
“We let Angola come back in the game so we put something right during halftime and then you see the second half, we make more pressure and there’s more movement in the team and we had chances and this is what I want”
