Algeria head coach Vladimir Petkovic has expressed optimism in his side’s ability to reach the knockout stage of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
At the ongoing tournament in Morocco, the Desert Foxes are drawn in Group E, where they will face Sudan, Burkina Faso, and Equatorial Guinea.
Speaking ahead of Algeria’s opening match against Sudan, Vladimir Petkovic said he believes his team can move past the group stage.
“I am confident. I sincerely believe that we have what it takes to qualify for the second round. My role is to pass that conviction on to the players and show them that we can achieve good things together,” the Swiss tactician said.
Vladimir Petkovic added, “My personal objective is aligned with that of the Federation, the team, the players, and the Algerian people. I want to show that this team has real value and creates opportunities for Algerians to be happy and proud of their national team.”
AFCON 2025 will be Petkovic’s first appearance at the tournament, and he has repeatedly spoken of his respect for the competitiveness of African football. At the same time, he has expressed confidence in his players and a strong desire to restore pride in the national team’s performances on the continental stage.
