Liverpool star Mohammed Salah has etched his name into the history books of Egyptian football following his strike in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations opener against Zimbabwe.

The experienced attacker played a pivotal role on Monday night, scoring a decisive stoppage time goal to propel his outfit to a crucial victory at the continental showpiece, being held in Morocco.

Salah not only clinched victory for the Pharaohs in the dying moments, but also etched his name into the annals of Egyptian football history.

With his strike against Zimbabwe, the pacey winger now becomes the first ever Egyptian player to score in five editions of the Africa Cup of Nations, highlighting his importance to the national team since making his debut.

After the first round, Egypt shares the top spot in Group B with South Africa. Both teams are expected to go head-to-head in their second group game on Friday, which promises to be a decisive clash.

The 33-year-old forward has scored 62 goals in 108 appearances for the Egyptian national team, since marking his debut in 2011.
