Egypt trio Omar Marmoush, Mohamed Hany, and Yasser Ibrahim shared their reflections after the Pharaohs secured a 2-1 victory over Zimbabwe on Monday evening in the opening round of Group B at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Marmoush, who scored the equalizer before Mohamed Salah netted the winner, was named Man of the Match.
Speaking after receiving the accolade, he acknowledged that tournament openers are always challenging and emphasized that the team’s focus now shifts to their next encounter against South Africa on Friday.
Right-back Mohamed Hany expressed his satisfaction at earning three points to kick off the campaign.
He further highlighted the intensity of the match, noting that the African championship is far from easy.
Hany added that while Egypt dominated and created several chances, there is room for improvement as the tournament progresses.
Defender Yasser Ibrahim echoed the sentiment, describing the victory as a crucial boost for the team.
Addressing speculation about a lack of cohesion with teammate Hossam Abdel-Maguid, Ibrahim praised Hossam’s qualities, stressing that their on-field understanding, combined with careful preparation and a bit of luck, contributed to the win.
