Congolese forward Yoane Wissa targets Chelsea scalp after breaking Newcastle duck
Yoane Wissa aims to build on his recent scoring momentum when Newcastle United hosts Chelsea in Saturday’s crucial Premier League fixture.
The forward is eager to maintain his clinical form after finally breaking his duck for the Magpies. This match represents a massive opportunity for the striker to cement his place in the starting eleven.
The 29-year-old believes his recent breakthrough can propel the team toward another vital home victory.
The DR Congo international recently netted his inaugural goal during a Carabao Cup quarterfinal victory against Fulham.
“I was dreaming about it a couple of months ago and now I’ve got my first goal with this shirt. It’s so special for me. This is where I wanted to be and where I needed to be and add a tap-in so quite happy with the goal,” Wissa said.
“It’s my story. No story is a straight line. I really wanted to score earlier but, unfortunately, I was injured. I came back from the injury and had intense work with the medical staff so that goal is for them.
“I worked hard with them and want to thank them deeply because it’s not easy. I’m quite happy today.”
He added, “The confidence is definitely higher. Now we’ve won, we move on. We need to enjoy tonight, rest tomorrow and look forward to Saturday’s game.
“This is where we need to be and what to focus on to beat Chelsea and get another three points at home.”
