French-Ivorian forward Elye Wahi facing uncertain future at Eintracht Frankfurt ahead of January window
French-born forward of Ivorian descent Elye Wahi is facing an uncertain future at Eintracht Frankfurt as the January transfer window approaches, with his time in Germany potentially coming to an early end.
The 22-year-old striker is said to be growing increasingly frustrated after failing to secure regular playing time during his first season at the club. Wahi joined Frankfurt from Olympique Marseille last winter in a deal reportedly worth around €26 million, but has struggled to establish himself since his arrival.
In 25 appearances across all competitions, Wahi has managed just one goal and three assists, figures that have only intensified scrutiny around his situation. According to Bild, Frankfurt’s sporting management is planning a crisis meeting with the players’ representatives during the winter break to evaluate the next steps.
Reports suggest that a significant part of Wahi’s dissatisfaction stems from expectations set before his move.
The forward was believed to have been promised a more prominent role in a system featuring two central attackers, but head coach Dino Toppmöller has largely favoured formations built around a lone striker.
Within the club, there are also concerns about how Wahi has been integrated into the squad, with some questioning Toppmöller’s decisions to deploy him against opponents whose defensive structures do not play to his strengths. At the same time, the player’s own attitude has reportedly drawn criticism, while his recent absences from matchday squads point to mounting tensions behind the scenes.
With the situation unresolved, a January departure remains a real possibility. Galatasaray are said to be monitoring developments closely and are reportedly considering a loan move that would include an option to make the transfer permanent.
