Egypt’s Ministry of Youth and Sports issued an official statement on Monday in response to the Public Prosecution’s ongoing investigations into the procedures for withdrawing the land allocated to Zamalek in 6th of October City.

The ministry stressed that it is closely following all developments in this sensitive file and is keen to protect the rights of all sports bodies, especially mass clubs with large fan bases such as Zamalek.

In its statement, the ministry said it has worked “from the beginning” to preserve the stability of Zamalek and to search for legal and sustainable solutions that ensure the club’s interests, safeguard its assets and guarantee its continued stability within the framework of the law and in coordination with all state institutions. It confirmed that several proposals and alternatives have been studied with the Ministry of Housing and other concerned authorities to reach an outcome that serves the overall sports system.

Sports Minister Ashraf Sobhi underlined that no decisions or further steps will be taken before the Public Prosecution completes its work, in full respect of the law, confidentiality of investigations and the principles of transparency and rule of law. The Prosecution, for its part, has summoned a committee of illicit gain experts to examine points that may involve suspected squandering of public funds
