Marcel Koller, the Swiss head coach of the Al Ahly football team, has declined the initial request from Palestinian striker Wissam Abu Ali, the new addition to the squad from Sweden’s Sirius.
Sources from “Al Watan Sport” indicate that Koller asked Wissam Abu Ali to be present immediately at the team’s training sessions to integrate with the other players, emphasizing the urgency of his services given the limited time available.
Earlier, Wissam Abu Ali had requested permission from Ahly officials to travel to Denmark for 72 hours to attend to personal matters.
However, Koller turned down the player’s request.
During a meeting between Koller and Wissam Abu Ali, the coach informed him that he would approve his travel at the earliest possible time when the team has a break in the upcoming period.
Wissam Abu Ali’s scheduled trip to Denmark
Koller conveyed to Wissam Abu Ali that he would consent to his trip as soon as the team gets a break in the near future.
Marcel Koller aims to engage in a closed camp in the UAE or play a series of friendly matches in the coming days to prepare the group of players currently in training for the upcoming phase.
Al Ahly is gearing up for matches in the general league and the African Champions League following the resumption of competitions after the international break.
Wissam Abu Ali, who has signed a 4.5-year contract with Al Ahly, was recently announced as the club’s new acquisition.
The deal, costing the Red Castle’s treasury approximately $2 million, reflects the team’s strategic investment in enhancing its attacking capabilities.
