It appears that Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) is facing challenges in finding a new coach, with several prominent names reportedly declining the opportunity. The list of refusals includes André Villas-Boas, Arsène Wenger, José Mourinho, Rafael Benitez, Roberto Mancini, Laurent Blanc, Fabio Capello, Guus Hiddink, and Michael Laudrup. Even Frank Rijkaard, the former coach of FC Barcelona, is said to be taking a year off from coaching and is not interested in joining PSG at the moment.
The latest speculation is around the possibility of Claude Makelele taking over from Carlo Ancelotti, who was the coach at PSG. Laurent Blanc’s name is also being mentioned as a potential candidate, although it’s unclear whether he sees PSG as his ideal destination.
Blanc, at 47 years old, has an impressive football background. He ended his playing career in 2003 at Manchester United, and he won the FIFA World Cup with the French national team. As a coach, he managed Bordeaux for three seasons, winning the French Ligue 1 title in 2009. In July 2010, he took over as the coach of the French national team, leading them to the quarter-finals of Euro 2012 before being eliminated by Spain.
The situation remains fluid, and coaching appointments can be influenced by various factors. It will be interesting to see how the PSG management ultimately decides on Ancelotti’s successor and whether Blanc or Makelele emerges as the chosen candidate.
