Ghanaian midfielder Kwasi Sibo seeking exit from Real Oviedo amid reduced playing time
Kwasi Sibo has informed Real Oviedo of his intention to leave the club in the upcoming transfer window, with the Ghanaian midfielder increasingly frustrated by a sharp decline in playing time at the struggling La Liga side.
The 27-year-old has grown unsettled as he finds himself on the fringes of the squad, with Oviedo sitting 19th and entrenched in a relegation battle.
His limited minutes this season have drawn interest from several clubs, who are reported to have made inquiries about the midfielder’s availability.
Sibo’s situation has worsened since the dismissal of Veljko Paunović, who was removed from his post following a poor run of results.
In a bid to revive the team’s fortunes, the club appointed Luis Carrión in October 2025.
However, the coaching change has proved unfavourable for the Ghanaian, as Carrión has rarely called upon him and appears to have moved him out of his preferred options.
A regular starter for Ghana’s Black Stars, Sibo’s role at Real Oviedo stands in stark contrast to his importance on the international stage.
The midfielder, who prides himself on consistent involvement, has found it difficult to accept a substitute role and now wishes to depart in search of more meaningful playing time.
So far this season, he has featured in only seven matches for a total of 323 minutes.
This marks a significant shift from the previous campaign, when he played a pivotal role in Oviedo’s promotion to La Liga, making 38 appearances in the second division.
His arrival at the club in June 2024, on a free transfer, was driven by the expectation of regular football—particularly as he aims to remain in strong contention for Ghana’s squad for the 2026 World Cup.
Sibo’s international prospects have strengthened in recent months.
First called up by Otto Addo in September, he has earned five caps and was included in the squad for the latest international break in Japan.
With his national team career gaining momentum, concerns over limited club minutes have become increasingly pressing.
Real Oviedo now face the challenge of balancing their fight for survival with the likelihood of losing a player who was instrumental in their climb to the top flight.
AS the transfer window approaches, Sibo’s desire to secure a move is expected to shape discussions around his future, with his next decision likely to be influenced by both competitive ambition and the need for consistent game time.
