Egyptian football heavyweights Al Ahly are seeking to keep enterprising forward Hamza Abdelkarim amid Barcelona interest.

The 17-year-old attacker has attracted significant interest from several clubs including Barcelona, who are keen about capturing the younger.

Abdelkarim gained prominence at the U-17 World Cup tournament, held in Qatar last month, with the attacker delivering a top-class performance despite Egypt’s early elimination from the tournament.

Barcelona, who are keen on securing the signature of the forward, has already submitted an official offer. Meanwhile, the Egyptian club is staunchly opposed to the deal, viewing him as a valuable asset for the future.

The Spanish outfit believes Abdelkarim could be the long-term, high-quality solution to their centre-forward issue and want to sign the young Egyptian as early as this winter.

Abdelkarim himself has made up his mind and is ready to move to Barcelona on January 1, when he turns 18, but his club is doing everything possible to block the transfer.

This season, Hamza Abdelkarim has played one match for Al Ahly but has yet to register a goal or an assist.
