Mohamed Salah And Omar Marmoush lead unchanged Egypt squad for AFCON 2025
Egypt coach Hossam Hassan has confirmed the final national team list for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, keeping the entire 28-man squad from the December camp without any changes despite speculation about possible omissions.
The tournament will run from 21 December to 18 January, with Egypt entering under scrutiny after criticism of the second team’s performance in the recent Arab Cup.
The squad features the return of midfielder Emam Ashour, who comes back to the Pharaohs setup after being left out in June 2024 and then sidelined by injury. Egypt will be allowed to register 28 players for the competition, but only 23 can be selected on each matchday, and the Confederation of African Football will cover accommodation costs for 23 players while federations must pay for any extras.
The goalkeepers are Mohamed El Shenawy, Ahmed El Shenawy, Mostafa Shobier, and Mohamed Sobhi, while the defence includes names such as Mohamed Hany, Ahmed Eid, Rami Rabia, Khaled Sobhi, Yasser Ibrahim, and Ahmed Fattouh. Midfield is led by Marwan Attia, Hamdi Fathi, Emam Ashour, Ahmed “Zizo” El Sayed, Mahmoud Trezeguet, Ibrahim Adel, Mostafa Fathi, Omar Marmoush, and star man Mohamed Salah, with the attack spearheaded by Mostafa Mohamed, Salah Mohsen, and Osama Faisal.
Egypt will compete in Group B alongside South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Angola, starting against Zimbabwe on 22 December. The Pharaohs then meet South Africa on 26 December before closing the group stage versus Angola on 29 December, in a campaign where expectations will be high for a deep run.
