Spanish-born forward of Nigerian descent, Samu Aghehowa, was the star for FC Porto on Thursday night, scoring a brace to lead the team to a 2-1 victory over Malmö FF in the Europa League.

Porto took the lead on the half-hour mark when Rodrigo Mora lofted a perfectly weighted pass into the box for Samu, who rose above his marker and directed a powerful header into the left corner, leaving Robin Olsen helpless.

Six minutes later, the in-form forward struck again, drifting into space to meet a pass from Pepê before calmly slotting the ball low into the centre of the net to double the advantage.

Malmö pulled one back deep into stoppage time after Francisco Moura inadvertently turned the ball into his own net, but Porto held firm to secure all three points on a night dominated by Samu’s brilliance.

The win on Thursday has lifted FC Porto to eight on the standings and with a massive chance of advancing to the knockout stage as one of the top teams.
