Samuel Eto'o urged to pursue second term as Fecafoot President

President of the Cameroonian Football Federation, Samuel Eto’o is reported to have deliberately excluded Vincent Aboubakar from the squad for the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

The 33-year-old attacker, who plies his trade for Azerbaijani outfit Neftchi PFK was dropped from the Indomitable Lions squad for the continental showpiece, which kick start on December 21, 2025 in Morocco.

Despite being on form, Aboubakar could not make the cut for the much-anticipated Africa Cup of Nations, sparking numerous concerns in the football fraternity.

As per The Sun, Eto’o, who is the president of the Cameroonian football influenced Aboubakar’s exclusion from the team over fear of surpassing his scoring record.

Aboubakar currently has 45 goals in 117 matches for Cameroon, while Eto’o has 56 goals in 118 appearances. This means the 33-year-ol striker has just eleven goals to break Eto’o’s  all-time Cameroon scoring record.

In an attempt to maintain his record, the former Barcelona and Chelsea star ensured that Aboubakar is not included in the squad for the continental showpiece.

Cameroon will compete in Group F of the Africa Cup of Nations alongside Gabon, Ivory Coast and Mozambique. Their first match is scheduled for Wednesday, December 24.
